A few facts. Tobira 1 has 3 units with 3-4 lessons each. It seems to be a lot more text heavy than Genki 1. There are longer dialogues and longer & way more reading passages. It's a lot more colourful than Genki. Vocab is listed in 2 different ways, in a simple list, and with pictures for each new word to help you memorize them.

I tried Genki. I gave up in a couple of weeks. I tried Japanese From Zero. I made it a month before losing focus. I tried Genki again; same result. Then I tried Tobira and now after 2 months (~1.5-2 hrs a day), I'm not only continuing, but going STRONG.
